Laredo 04:12
Oh you oughta let me just try now (Pick up the call) Cause I’m alright now I’ve been on the run all over town here Since I’ve been living on Laredo You met me on the way down But if I gotta look false then I don’t wanna Take me home but I’m not ready to be lying down And if I gotta move fast then I don’t wanna You’re all that I haven’t hurt now I’m not ready to lie down Oh no can we just talk I don’t wanna leave you I don’t wanna go I don’t wanna know If I don’t wanna be with you Can I not love at all Can’t spend another night alone (First you go) Tell me that you’re on your way home Now you tell me not to wait up Am I in your way now All I know how to run to from where I’m wanted Looking for a calling Could I have gotten it wrong again Feeling all too often like I don’t know you Texting but not talking tell me where we lost it Her body moving I’m starting to lose focus She makes me feel like it’s not hopeless Forgive me if I let her in I wonder will I let her in I wonder if I can Oh no can we just talk I don’t wanna leave you I don’t wanna go I don’t wanna know If I don’t wanna be with you Can I not love at all I don’t wanna leave you I don’t wanna go I don’t wanna know If I don’t wanna be with you Can I not love at all No I can’t stay but I’m not ready to go Oh I kept you waiting so long I didn’t know I needed room to grow So I let you leave me alone (Tell me what I was waiting for)

about

Fresh off of his comeback single By The Way, American-in-Amsterdam Meeka Kates revs up the engine again with his new single Laredo.

With Laredo, Meeka presses his distinct sonic stamp further into our hearts and nudges us slowly towards the dance floor. Gorgeous, funky guitars trade places with organ stabs, grooving away to a sticky bass line.

Somewhere in-between the rational and the physical, Laredo explores an interesting mix of guilt and cautious optimism. An overlapping story of love in its infancy and at its end, it’s a perfect example of Kates’ up-in-the-air writing style; as ethereal as it is grounded. With thoughts and feelings darting around without any real conclusion at hand, the lyrics are a poignant observation of the modern romantic era.

Once again produced and written alongside Oscar de Jong (Kraak & Smaak) and Billy Burki (Knight One), the New York native talks to us about actively losing focus in a relationship, set to a melancholic, nu-jazz-tinged sonic backdrop that works wonders with his trademark vocal harmonies.

Meeka Kates is reclaiming his rightful spot in your favorite winter and spring playlists. Look sharp for his upcoming releases, as there’s plenty more where these came from.
