The slicker-than-oil New York native Meeka Kates returns to showcase more of his smooth brand of indie electronica and pop on Kraak & Smaak’s growing Boogie Angst imprint.
Having arrived on the scene with his debut single ‘Closure’ just two years ago Meeka Kates immediately grabbed attention of the world winning fans across press and radio with his chilled out swagger.
Following up his initial success with a high profile collaboration on Kraak & Smaak’s critically acclaimed ‘Juicy Fruit’ album led to the Dutch dance legends signing him up on their label. Two EPs later his star continue to rise and this time around he offers up a tasty double-A side of soul tinged mellow dance jams perfect for lovers.
First track ‘No’ is a duet with Raina Sokolov-Gonzalez, a young New York based songstress whose soulful sound melts with the tracks’ sensual soft synths as Kates details his trip to a former lovers place to try and reignite what they once had. The catchy chorus refrain showcases his smooth layered harmonies and ear for subtle detail. Seguing from minimal ambient pop to the bouncing driven melodies seamlessly
The second of this duo - ‘Locked’ sees the singer at his best riffing over a laid back mid-tempo dance groove. Beautifully reverb-soaked tuneful vocals glide over the jazzy chords like a dream as the track escalates. Always tasteful and collected the track’s style reminds of contemporaries like Hayden James and Fhin, maintaining just the right amount of funky bass for this love song to feel at home both in the club and the lounge.
Bright Moments was the first of Flamingosis's works that I heard in full, and it caused me to immediately fall head-over-heels for his crisp, funky, addictive beats.
With his magic bag of eclectic samples and signature golden touch, Flam has crafted an energetic and deceptively technical record that will plaster a grin directly onto your face. mantis_666
